The Corona pandemic has forced us all to rethink and adapt. At Laponia Adventures we want you to feel safe when booking and traveling with us. If any rules, laws or recommendations prevent you from traveling to our destination, you can cancel your tour or activity up to two weeks before it starts and receive a full refund. As long as there are restrictions of a maximum of 8 people on gatherings and events we will will only allow 8 people in total on the activities and tours, including the guides.

Enjoy real winter above the arctic circle and experience different winter activities. Jokkmokk winter activity holiday is a weeklong package including accommodation right in the center of Jokkmokk. In small groups you will try dog sledding, search for the northern light and look for great moose in the forest outside Jokkmokk. You will also get a chance to experience the Sami culture with a local reindeer herding family, meet their reindeers and listen to stories around the fire.

Jokkmokk is famous for its winter market that usually takes place this week and have done för more than 400 years. In 2021 the market can not take place as usual due to the restrictions around the Corona virus. But Jokkmokk winter market is not cancelled, it adapts to the different situation that we are all experiencing. Digital events and shops, less people for sure a unique week in Jokkmokk!

Experience arctic winter and activities above the Arctic Circle

This holiday tour is for you who…

…are looking for an active vacation north of the Arctic Circle. To experience all activities you must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, sit down on the ground and enter a snowmobile sledge. Recommended age from 16 years old. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding your physical ability.

Food and accommodation

During your time in Jokkmokk you will stay in twin rooms at Jokkmokk guesthouse, centrally located in Jokkmokk. Both the rooms and the common areas have a warm and a homely atmosphere. You will be served breakfast buffet and most dinners at the guesthouse and lunch will be included on your activities.

Guides and activities

We work with local guides and activity companies who have good knowledge of the culture and history in the area. You will also have a guide that help you book additional activities or recommend things to do on your own.

This holiday is arranged together with Jokkmokkguiderna who run dogsledding tours in the woodlands outside Jokkmokk but also in the mountains of Laponia.

Itinerary Feb 5-10

Included meals marked each day with B=breakfast, L=lunch and D=dinner


Jokkmokk is a small town just north of the Arctic Circle. Travel here by train and bus or get picked up in Luleå. We arrange transfer from the train station or the airports in Luleå at 15.00. You can check-in to your rooms at Jokkmokk guesthouse from 15.00. If you arrive earlier you can leave your luggage in the luggage room at Jokkmokk guesthouse and also access the common kitchen.

We will all gather in the evening at 18.00 at Jokkmokk guesthouse and have dinner together. Your guide for the week will brief you on the upcoming program.


We start the day with breakfast buffet at the guesthouse before heading out on a bird watching tour in the forest just a short walk from the guesthouse. The afternoon is free to be able to join any activity available on the digital winter market or time to just get familiar with the town. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse.


After breakfast we head out with minibuses searching for the great Sarek moose. Protected from the yearly hunting season the Sarek moose grow bigger than its relatives. In the winter, they migrate down to the forest area east of Sarek national park where they find food and protection from the harsh environment in the mountain. We take you to some of the moose’s favorite places.

After dinner we will get dressed to go out searching for the northern light. A snowmobile will drive you outside Jokkmokk where we have a warming fire and glance to the sky, hoping for a glimpse of the northern light.


The musher will pick you up at the guesthouse after breakfast and drive you to their ranch just outside Jokkmokk. You will get to know their dogs and go out on a dog sledding tour experiencing the winter landscape around Jokkmokk.

In the afternoon we will visit Eva Gunnare. Eva is a local food connoisseur and she will introduce you to flavors from berries and plants in the area.


We start the day with breakfast buffet at the guesthouse. Today we will visit our friend Anna Kuhmunen from a local reindeer herders’ family. You will get a chance to listen to stories from her life and culture, meet their reindeers and taste traditional Sámi food.

In the afternoon you’ll have some time to explore the town on your own and visit the local museum about the mountains and the Sami people. Or why not try the sauna at the guesthouse? In the evening we’ll meet for a closure dinner together.

The activities during day 2-5 can be switch around.


After breakfast it is time to say good bye and wish you safe travels home. Take a last tour in town before you start your journey home.

We can arrange transfer to central Luleå or Luleå airports. We will leave Jokkmokk around 9.00 and arrive Luleå train station or airport latest 12.00. You will have to check-out from your rooms latest 11.00 but if you are planning on staying in Jokkmokk during the day you are welcome to leave your luggage in the luggage room and use the common kitchen.

A normal day in February offers temperatures from -10 to -35 degrees Celsius. We rent winter clothing and shoes.

Make sure you check the current regulations for passport and visa to travel to Sweden.

We recommend you to have valid travel insurance.

We may need to adjust the route and the itinerary according to the conditions for the local reindeer herders, as well as current weather and snow conditions.
